Our Clawson siding replacement is officially complete, and the finished exterior came together great. We installed Mastic Ply Gem Carvedwood vinyl siding in Harbor Grey, giving this Clawson, Michigan home a clean and updated look.
We have shared this project from the beginning because it is a good example of everything that can go into a siding job. It started with removing the old exterior, included some unexpected repairs once we opened up the walls, and ended with the finished home you see in these photos.
Now that everything is done, you can really see how much of a difference the new siding made.
The Finished Clawson Siding Replacement
The homeowners chose Mastic Carvedwood siding in Harbor Grey for this project. Harbor Grey worked really well with the existing brick on the front of the house.
Rather than fighting with the brick color, the new siding complements it. The white trim also gives the exterior some contrast and keeps everything looking clean.
We installed the new siding around the entire home, including the taller rear and side walls. With everything finished, the color stays consistent while the brick remains an original feature on the front of the house.

More Than Just New Siding
A finished siding project is all about the final appearance, but some of the most important work gets covered up before the last piece of siding goes on.
During demolition on this home, we found areas of damaged wood underneath the existing exterior. That isn’t something you can always identify during the initial inspection because the old siding hides the sheathing.
We documented the issue in our post about finding rotten wood behind siding.
When we find damaged wood, we don’t just cover it back up. We replace what needs to be replaced so the new siding has a solid surface behind it. Then we can properly prepare the exterior and continue with the installation.
That takes a little more work, but it makes much more sense than putting brand-new siding over a problem.
From Demolition to Finished Harbor Grey Siding
We also shared a Clawson siding installation update when the house was getting close to completion.
Now we finally get to show the finished result.
Mastic Carvedwood is manufactured by Ply Gem, and homeowners can view the Carvedwood product information directly from Ply Gem.
One reason we like documenting projects from start to finish is that homeowners can see more than a finished picture. You can see what the house looked like during installation. You can see what we discovered underneath the old siding. And now you can see how everything looks after the work is complete.

Why Proper Siding Installation Matters in Michigan
Siding obviously changes the appearance of a home, but that’s only part of its job.
The siding system also helps protect the structure underneath from rain, snow, wind, and the changing weather we get here in Southeast Michigan.
That makes the preparation behind the siding important. Flashing, water management, solid sheathing, trim details, and proper installation all play a role.
The U.S. Department of Energy also provides information about moisture control in homes, including the importance of controlling water around the building envelope.
The finished siding is what everyone sees. We pay just as much attention to the work that eventually gets covered up.
Harbor Grey Siding Works Well With This Clawson Home
Color selection can completely change a siding project.
Harbor Grey is neutral enough to work with the existing brick while still giving this home a noticeable update. It also looks different depending on the light and the side of the house you’re viewing.
That’s one reason we always recommend looking at actual siding samples before choosing a color. A color on a computer screen can look very different once it’s installed across an entire house.
