Board and Batten Siding Clawson MI: Stunning Split-Level Home Update
After spending the first couple of days removing the old aluminum siding, replacing damaged sections of T1-11, and preparing the home for its new exterior, our siding crew reached the stage where homeowners really start to see the transformation happen.
This split-level home in Clawson is quickly becoming one of our favorite projects this season. The combination of Ply Gem Board & Batten in Lakeshore Fern and D4 Lap Siding in Linen has completely changed the appearance of the home while still respecting its original design.
By the middle of the week, the house was beginning to look less like a construction project and more like the finished vision the homeowners had been excited about from the beginning.
Installing the New Board & Batten
One of the biggest visual changes came as we began installing the new Board & Batten siding on the upper level.
The original T1-11 siding had served the home for many years, but replacing it with Ply Gem’s Board & Batten profile immediately added depth and character to the exterior.
The homeowners chose Lakeshore Fern, a rich green color that works especially well on split-level homes because it highlights the upper story without overwhelming the rest of the exterior.
As more panels went up, it became easier to appreciate how much texture board and batten adds compared to older sheet-style siding. The vertical lines draw your eyes upward and give the home a more custom appearance.
Linen Lap Siding Brightens the Lower Level
While the upper portion of the home provides contrast, the lower level creates balance.
Our crew continued installing Ply Gem D4 Lap Siding in Linen across the first floor, replacing the aging aluminum siding that had covered the home for decades.
The soft Linen color pairs perfectly with the darker green accents above. Rather than competing with each other, the two colors work together to create a timeless look that feels both modern and welcoming.
This type of two-tone design has become increasingly popular because it adds architectural interest without relying on bold or trendy colors that may not age well.
Matching the Garage
As work progressed, we also completed the detached garage using the same Lakeshore Fern Board & Batten siding found on the upper portion of the house.
Matching the accent color helps tie the entire property together. Instead of feeling like a separate structure, the garage now complements the home and creates a much more cohesive appearance from the street.
It’s a detail that often gets overlooked during exterior renovations, but one that makes a noticeable difference in the finished product.
The Details Make the Difference
By days three through five, much of our attention shifted toward the finish work.
Corners, trim details, transitions between siding profiles, and clean installation lines are what separate an average siding job from one that’s built to last.

A Memorable Week for the Crew
This project also marked an important milestone for our team.
It was Jude’s first week working on the siding crew. As Brandon’s 16-year-old son, he had the opportunity to learn alongside experienced installers while seeing firsthand what goes into a professional siding installation.
Construction is one of those trades where experience is earned one project at a time. Throughout the week, Jude learned everything from material handling and jobsite organization to the importance of measuring carefully and paying attention to the small details.
Watching new skills develop while working alongside family made this project especially meaningful for everyone involved

Almost Ready for the Final Reveal
By the end of the week, this Clawson home looked dramatically different than it did when we first arrived.
The new siding colors had completely transformed the exterior, the garage now matched the home’s updated design, and only the final finishing touches remained before completion.
Projects like this are a great reminder that a siding replacement is about much more than simply installing new materials. It’s an opportunity to completely refresh the appearance of a home while improving its durability and reducing future maintenance.
