Garden City Siding Replacement Project Update: New Ply Gem Everest D4 Siding Taking Shape

At Level Up Improvement, we love seeing neighborhoods transform one project at a time. This week, our crew is working on a siding replacement project in Garden City, Michigan, and it’s located in a very familiar area for us.

This home sits directly across the street from a roof replacement we recently completed and just a block away from another roofing project. It’s always rewarding when homeowners see our work in the neighborhood and trust us with improvements to their own homes.

Day One: Siding Removal and Inspection

The first phase of this project involved removing the existing siding and evaluating the condition of the structure underneath.

As with every siding project, we don’t assume what’s behind the walls. The only way to know the true condition of a home’s exterior is to remove the old materials and inspect everything firsthand.

Once the old siding was removed, our crew inspected the wall assembly and prepared the home for a proper weather-resistant barrier system.

Installing House Wrap the Right Way

One of the most important steps in any siding installation is installing a quality house wrap.

House wrap serves as a secondary moisture barrier that helps protect the home’s framing from water intrusion while still allowing the wall system to breathe properly. When installed correctly, it helps improve energy efficiency and provides another layer of defense against Michigan’s changing weather conditions.

For this project, we carefully installed and secured new house wrap before moving forward with siding installation. Every seam and penetration was addressed to help create a continuous protective barrier behind the finished siding.

While homeowners rarely see this part of the installation once the project is complete, it is one of the most important components of the entire siding system.

Day Two: Installing Ply Gem Everest D4 Lap Siding

With the home properly prepared, our crew began installing new Ply Gem Everest D4 lap siding.

Ply Gem Everest is a popular choice for homeowners looking for a clean, traditional appearance combined with low maintenance requirements. The D4 profile provides a classic look that works well with many home styles throughout Garden City and Southeast Michigan.

As the photos show, the transformation started quickly once installation began. New siding, trim, and accessories immediately gave the garage and side elevations a cleaner and more updated appearance.

Attention to detail during installation is critical. Proper alignment, fastening, trim work, and finishing details all contribute to the final appearance and long-term performance of the siding system.

Why Proper Preparation Matters

Many siding projects focus only on the finished appearance. While curb appeal is important, the work happening underneath the siding is what protects the home for years to come.

Proper tear-off procedures, inspection of underlying materials, installation of house wrap, and correct flashing details all play a major role in preventing future moisture issues.

Taking the time to complete these steps correctly helps ensure the siding performs as intended while providing homeowners with peace of mind.
