What Is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster PREMIER Contractor?
ShingleMaster PREMIER is CertainTeed’s highest company credential for residential shingle roofing contractors. It recognizes companies that have demonstrated advanced installation knowledge, established professional practices, and a continued commitment to customer satisfaction.
The credential is not automatically awarded to every contractor who purchases or installs CertainTeed products. A roofing company must complete several educational and accreditation steps before it can qualify.

What Does CertainTeed Master Craftsman Training Mean?
A CertainTeed Master Craftsman® Roofing Contractor is an installer who has studied the company’s roofing installation requirements and passed an examination based on the CertainTeed Shingle Applicator’s Manual.
The training covers essential roofing subjects, including:
- Complete roofing systems
- Proper shingle installation
- Flashing and leak prevention
- Roof ventilation
- Estimating
- Workmanship standards

Requirements for Becoming a CertainTeed PREMIER Contractor
Becoming a CertainTeed ShingleMaster PREMIER contractor requires a company-wide commitment. The requirements extend beyond a single trained employee or completed roofing project.
A Master Craftsman Roofing Workforce
All roofing supervisors and at least 75% of a PREMIER company’s installers must hold the Master Craftsman Roofing Contractor credential.
The company must also employ at least one Master Craftsman SELECT Roofing Contractor, CertainTeed’s highest individual residential roofing credential. These workforce requirements help promote consistent installation standards throughout the company.
Advanced CertainTeed Product Knowledge
At least two company employees must earn the Master Craftsman Shingle Quality Specialist™ designation.
To receive this designation, employees study CertainTeed’s Shingle Technology Manual and pass an examination covering shingle manufacturing, product quality, warranties, product differences, and customer needs.
This knowledge allows our team to explain available products clearly and help homeowners make informed roofing decisions.
Continuing Roofing Education
PREMIER contractors must continue learning after earning the credential. Participating companies must complete continuing-education requirements through approved training and workshops.

A PREMIER contractor must have an established business history or satisfy CertainTeed’s comparable experience requirements.

ShingleMaster PREMIER companies must carry liability insurance covering roofing work and workers’ compensation insurance as required by law.
